WHAT IS SCULPTRA®?

Beautiful skin is a journey. But as time goes on, it can be harder and harder to keep up. As you age, collagen production diminishes, and your skin doesn’t have the same resiliency and fullness it did in the past. Starting in our 20s, collagen production dwindles by 1-2% a year. By age 40, our skin is incapable of producing Type 1 Collagen resulting in diminished skin elasticity and increasing signs of aging.

Sculptra® is a poly-L-lactic acid (PLLA)–based treatment that works with your body to stimulate collagen production lost to aging, rebuilding and reinforcing your skin’s structural foundation. Through a series of treatments, typically about three sessions over a few months, it restores the support and volume of youthful looking skin, providing results that can last up to two years.

WHO IS A GOOD CANDIDATE FOR SCULPTRA®?

Sculptra is best for people who want a natural, youthful-looking appearance that lasts up to two years. Sculptra can be used across a range of patient ages but may be especially well suited for younger patients—those in their 30s or early 40s who are just seeing the first signs of collagen depletion and volume loss. For middle-aged patients who have begun to experience more notable volume loss, Sculptra can be beneficial and may offer different benefits than hyaluronic acid fillers, such as gradual results and a longer duration of effect.

Frequently Asked Questions

The rule of thumb is 1 vial per decade of age and 2 vials are injected per session. Sessions are booked 2-3 months apart to allow maximum collagen stimulation between treatments.

Normal activities may be resumed immediately following treatment, but it is recommended to avoid strenuous exercise for 24 hours after treatment to aide in reduction of swelling & bruising. Expect mild to moderate redness, swelling and tenderness to last for 48-72 hours.

Bruising is possible and may last about 7 days. You may take Tylenol/Acetaminophen as directed per the product you have at home for mild discomfort after treatment.

A possible side effect can be the delayed appearance of tiny nodules under the skin, which can appear 6 – 12 months after treatment. They can be felt, but not seen and development can be minimized by following the immediate post treatment massage instructions. Any worsening or prolonged symptoms should be reported to the clinic.

Results may begin to appear 4 – 6 weeks after treatment and will gradually improve for up to 12 months. Results last up to 2 – 3 years after initial treatment. Maintenance is recommended once yearly after your initial treatment series and is typically 1-2 vials.
